Cell Phone Alert

Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketing firms. This means that as of Jan 1, your cell phone may start ringing with calls from telemarketers. But unlike your home phone, most of you pay for your incoming calls. These type of telemarketer calls will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run. According to the National Do Not Call List, you have until Dec. 15th 2004 to get on the national "Do not call list" for cell phones. You need to call 1-888-382-1222 from the cell phone that you wish to have put on the "do not call list" to be put on the list. You can also register online at http://www.donotcall.gov.

Cognitive bottom line summaries

My wife gets a bit peeved with me sometimes when we're talking because I just want to cut to the chase and get the essentials. "Look," I'll tell her, "just give me the bottom line summary." Given that I have the attention span of a gnat it's probably a good thing that I found a web site that'll indulge me in the same fashion while read about metacognitive pursuits. I found Study Guides and Strategies and was intrigued by how concise all of the advice was. What do you think?

Short post with lots of resources

PBL resources

A good deal of current research plainly indicates that students learn and retain more information when they believe that the content they are studying is relevant. Lecturing, the traditional method of instruction cherished by most teachers does little to convince students that what they are learning is germane to their lives. Project based learning and problem based learning can help. Both approaches to instruction are more likely to engage the attention of students and be applicable to their lives beyond the classroom.

The differentiated Classroom

Even in the best classrooms there will be students who complete assignments early. Instead of providing worksheets, send the students to the computer for a few brain teasers. Click on the link below and save it in your favorites folder for student use.
